Staying at a resort in Cancún, México? Get out and spend a day at Yum Cooking Workshop with Chef Andres! This was by far the highlight our week vacation in Cancún. Staying at a resort has its perks, but let’s face it, they often lack the experience of authentic culture of the area. A day of Chef Andres’ cooking workshop is a perfect way to get a little taste of the Mexican culture. Chef Andres takes you through various courses of traditional recipes, providing a rich history of each dish. Along the way we got to enjoy taking part in preparing some of the dishes such as salsa and empanadas. The tequila and mezcal tasting was a fantastic break, learning more about the history of these spirits, from an impassioned Chef Andres. The pairings with the tequila and mezcal such as pineapple, oranges, limes, chocolate, and chili powder mix were really enjoyable, especially exploring different ways to pair each with the different tequilas. The hospitality and the food were incredible. We loved everything about this unique experience and would highly recommend Yum Cooking Workshop. Getting to the workshop was no problem for the taxi driver, and Chef Andres was very responsive.

I only got good thing to say about this experience!! Me and my girlfriend did not have so much time and also due to the pandemic.. they did a special course for us with street tacos tequenice, different salsas, tequila and we learned so much. Look very much forward to do other things together in the future and our chef can pay a visit in Europe!! It was amazing!

How Andres and his cooking class remains a hard-to-find hidden gem is mind blowing. The quality of this experience warrants a wait list, and the top of any excursion list in the city. From the plantain&black bean filled empanadas, tomatillo pork stew, tequila & mezcal tasting, to the poached pear with vanilla ice cream with a cinnamon/tequila drizzle (Purposefully leaving out several equally amazing dishes for an element of surprise for new visitors) - every dish is equally rich in knowledge, cultural authenticity, and Michelin level taste. Andres’ kitchen is only a 15 minute drive from most of the hotel zone, but gets you completely removed from the tourist experience in the best way possible. This is absolutely the highlight of our trip, and enough of a standalone reason to bring us back to Cancun.

Where do I begin!!! This was an amazing experience of culture, culinary technique, and superb tastes! You learn so much from the importance of food quality, preparation, and pairings with amazing tequilas and wines. This is an opportunity to try new things and let the aroma and savoring experience surprise you. I must also add that it was not so difficult to where you could not create the dishes at home!! We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Andres and his wife and loved being welcomed into their kitchen. Don't miss out..take an unforgettable yum yum adventure! :)
