Get a good English speaking guide. The history is very interesting.
Fantastic place full of history although the boat ride can be a little intimidating when the lake is rougher but it's so worth it as a day trip activity. One of the sharp, friendly local indigenous boys will act as your tour guide
Kind of cool and unusual. About a 30 minute drive from Chapala. Negotiated with teen aged \captain\ to sail us to island for 450 pesos. Captain's 9 year old brother was our guide. Spoke machine gun speed Spanish. A few buildings remain somewhat worse for wear but interesting. 9 year old gives all his tips to his mother. We liked it. Not slick or sophisticated.
Inhabited from 12 century as sacrifice place. Precious indigenous praying circle with Tamascal still active and used by locals.
