This is a beautiful place, but this type of glitz is not my style. It felt very superficial. They put a hard sell on us at the airport to go to a presentation. They didn’t say it would be a timeshare-style hard sell. When we said we were not interested, once we got there, they wouldn’t take no for an answer. They started belittling us. It felt extremely disrespectful of our boundaries. What is it about the word “no” they don’t understand. Avoid this place!

Guard hiding in the bushes radioed his friends to turn us away. We are owners and wanted to see the new remodel. I will never go here again. Terrible staff and security.
My wife and I spend the winter months in San Jose del Cabo and joined the Vidanta Golf and Tennis club for their gym and tennis facilities. We prepaid a three (3) month membership in January 2021. Within a week the local COVID rules closed both gym and tennis courts. By mid January, seeing no change while other gyms and tennis were open we cancelled our membership and asked for a refund. Vidanta refused to refund our payment unless we provided our bank statement, account no, and transit information - essentially private financial info. I suggested simply crediting our credit card which we used to pay but they refused. They were uncooperative and put up road blocks to any refund options we suggested clearly not intending to refund us. Would not recommend this business.
Spectacular ambiance! You almost don't want to leave the resort (and pretty much don't have to with all the amenities). We stayed for 6 days, the week of Memorial Day and it was not very busy. The pool was pretty much open space every day and there were usually chairs/cabanas always available. The music from the club that many other reviews complain about was not bad at all. Yes, it could be heard from the pool but if you have a problem with it, you should have headphones with your own music preference or earplugs. (Side note: the "club" was trash during the day. A smaller shallower pool, music inside the walls was blasting and pretty much all the seating is VIP. The drinks were more expensive and not as good as the resort bars. We were curious enough about the hype to check it out). Also the construction noise also complained about, was minimal. Obviously the closer you sit to the noise, the louder it will be. Again bring something noise-canceling if you're sensitive to mild distraction sounds. We made wonderful friends with the pool bartenders and Ivan from the Joy Squad (plus you can win free drinks, yes please!)Heck we just spent most of our resort time at the pool, vacation-beverages in hand. Our suite was huge. 2 large king rooms with a pull out couch in the common area, full kitchen, 2 full baths jacuzzis, sitting areas in each room with separate balconies (one shared with the living space entrance). It definitely felt like an upgraded home-away-from-home. Hope to go back again!
The staff is very good at meeting the needs of the visitors. We have a 1 year old and did not have a kitchen, but they accommodated us by bringing us a refrigerator so we could store the milk for our baby. I told them about a microwave in a common area that was not working and they had it replaced within a couple hours. The Joy Club is very good at engaging people in activities fun for all ages. Ivan and Cesar were especially engaging. They are about to open three new large renovations to the resort. We got lucky and were able to visit the Herringbone restaurant on its first day open. The food was incredible. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. You can get good views from the third floor and up. The town is literally right across the street and there are a couple of large grocery stores within walking distance.
Truly the Mayan is the pinnacle of the resort experience. From the topmost restaurant to the exemplary service of the employees. It makes in comparison to the other properties in the Vidanta group but still a jewel in all its splendor!
I'm sure this place will be fantastic once the renovations are done but we had the "pleasure" of staying here while construction was ongoing. And by that I mean jackhammers starting at 7am and going all day. The resort was nice enough to not mention the construction when we booked. Don't go until January 2018.
I called to quote a wedding and I received a very bad and unprofessional customer service. The lady was so not interesting in helping me that together with the discouraging service, it was really disappointing as I have heard great comments of this Resort. Its a shame that people in the service industry are providing a lame customer service.
