This monumental statue represents indigenous culture living presence in Mexico. I've only seen it while traveling through. It's actually a National Indigenous Council statue (CONIN by it's Spanish initials and which disappeared after a 1999's uprising in Chiapas). I think there hasn't ever existed a \Conin guy\ to be honored with this kind of monument, - which actually and sadly resembles the popular belief on indigenous cultures: a solid lonely stone giant in the middle of nowhere that is passed by and called by a name that is not his - but I might be wrong.
Big statue in the centre of the road. A nice sight on your entrance to the city.
