Who knew this tropical oasis was out in the middle of nowhere. Santiago is a lovely little town and you pass all these Amazing little sites to see enjoy your trip through Santiago. Definitely worth the trip. Bring gym shoes to enjoy all the different pools along the trail there are so many to explore. The hot springs are hot hot hot, but Your body is going to sing after you take a dip, enjoy!

Beautiful area and nice hot spring. Due to covid they are only letting in 24 people at a time. So be there before the park opens at 8am. If you're willing to climb over some boulders, there was two other pools of water you can swim in but they are not warm. My kids loved swimming there.

First visited years ago before area was designated as an ecological preserve.

Very unfriendly people at the entrance, that ruined our stay. The place might be beautiful but the people don’t deserve the 150 per visitor.

There are 2 ways to get here and both are through Santiago. It does take about an hour to get here from San Jose. When you cross the bridge from the highway into Santiago take your first right. Go till the 4 way intersection and follow the signs to Santa Rita of San Jorge. San Jorge is a tiny little town and by tiny I think it could be population 10. You will cross over one last cattle guard going into San Jorge and you will take the only dirt road to the right. It is well traveled, yes there are switch backs but you should be able to make the trip in a 2 wheel drive sedan. We followed a mid eighties blue Ford Fairmont station wagon here so really no worries. It was 172 pesos for the wife and I do walk down to the hot springs which isn't even 10 USD. You can make the 5 minute walk in flip flops. Nothing challenging to the walk/hike at all unless you have issues walking on a very slight downward slope in sand. There are big pools that are cool and refreshing on a 85 degree April day. They also have the hotter pool which I'm guessing was maybe 95 and the cooler one below which was close to 90. Well worth the trip. I will absolutely go again.

The hot springs was gorgeous! Definitely recommend but make sure you have a car with high clearance. I rented a tiny car (Nissan March) and the car bottomed out multiple times on the dirt road and the drive was very uncomfortable and dangerous, and I was very worried about getting stuck or damaging the car. 4 wheel drive is ideal but I think a 2 wheel drive car with good clearance would be ok (at least when the roads are dry) but be prepared for a difficult and bumpy ride.
