I played Cabo Real on November 5, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The staff was helpful and respectful. It’s a really interesting and enjoyable Robert Trent Jones, Jr. track. Course conditions were a little below standard, that is, there were a lot of brown areas throughout, which made for the occasional tight lie, but it was still quite playable and the tees, greens, and landscaping, both in and out of play were excellent. I assume that the pandemic reduced the course’s income and ability to maintain the standard that one would fairly expect at the 210 per round price point. The front nine routes toward the sea with holes 3 and 4 revealing nice ocean vistas. The back nine winds through the hills and I felt like I was “getting away from it all” which is something I appreciate about a course. That terrain being steeper is also less forgiving with errant shots than off fairway shots on the front nine. It’s an excellent course and worth including in your Los Cabos golf rota.

I really wanted to give this course 5 stars as it's very beautiful, but the lack of tee time management by the marshals really changed my experience and review. I teed off at my scheduled tee time and I breezed through the front 9 with no one at all behind me, the group in front of me teed off 30 minutes ahead of me. I caught up to them on the turn, so I decided to grab a drink and a hot dog in the halfway house to get back in line with "2 hours per 9 holes". By the time I started the back 9 I was all of a sudden behind two groups and there was a two-some behind me. Let me explain why. One of the players stopped at the halfway house for almost an hour and then jumped back in at a random time. This screwed everyone's pace of play flow up, making the hold up very bad. My issue and why my rating is 3 stars, is because the Marshal's didn't regulate this player to keep moving so he wouldn't screw everyone's pace up. Therefore it made the whole outing very slow and obnoxious as 3-4 groups were waiting per tee box. Sometimes you had to wait 15 minutes or more at the tee box for everyone in line to tee off. You would think that given the expensive greens fees (210 USD for 18 and a cart), they would be able to properly regulate tee times and pace of play. This level of frustration made the beautiful course a different experience then people should expect. I've also read other reviewers state the same issue with pace of play. It's a beautiful public course, but with that you tend to get public course mismanagement like this example.

An amazing facility with all you need as a golfer! Practice areas are huges and nicely kept, fairways are in perfect condition and the halfway house offers all you could ask for. After the round the restaurant will certainly help get the energy back that was needed during the round.
