Above all, Anudando is a project based on a passionate belief by Founder and Designer Raquel Sereno Rivas that there is more to design than only looking forward. Instead, Anudando’s vision is strongly anchored on the wealth of skills and creativity shared across the communities of craftsmen in Mexico, together with the concept of sustainability and reuse of existing resources. The company started unofficially in 2012 as a research project, when Raquel started looking into various applications of Mexican crafts and methods of incorporating sustainability in high-quality contemporary design pieces for the home market. It was registered as a social enterprise in May 2014 and has since carefully selected and collaborated with 12 communities in the Mexican regions of Estado de Mexico, Queretaro, Guanajuato and Michoacan. Anudando is a company with a true social and sustainable focus. These values are found in the essence of Anundado’s brand, both in the name and the logo. The name itself means "tying knots" in Spanish, a play on words referring to the products and the way the company operates, tying knots across four specific areas: 1) Tie knots, literally Most of Anudando’s products are fabric-based. In fact, Anudando uses most of the textile-making techniques out there! 2) Anchor sustainability into crafts Anudando’s collection is made mostly from reused resources. We collect thousands of plastic bags each month to turn them into a working yarn. More than recycling, this is upcycling! 3) Link the craftsmen’s work with a network of customers worldwide Bringing craftsmen the exposure they deserve, and letting the world know about Mexico's fabulous wealth of crafts. 4) Connect traditional crafts and modern design Each and every one of Anudando’s products carries a unique story from each of the craftsmen. The design is the work of the Founder Raquel Sereno Rivas, inspired by contemporary architecture, nature, and her multicultural background.
