Sadly the lagoon is not like it was in the past. The clear crystal blue water is no longer and won't be for a long time to come. This be either from the human contamination or from the previous hurricane, regardless it's now an ecological disaster. The water is now a pale green and is very cloudy, I would advise not swimming it. I went kayaking and the smell of the water is similar to the water in London's canal. Despite this I strongly recommend the small town near the lagoon, it in my opinion is much nicer than Tulum and the town centre boasts a collection of lovely souvenir shops and several very good restaurants. There is also a very cheap ice-cream booth where they make the ice-cream rolls which are delicious. And when it comes to swimming I strongly recommend the cenote azul, it's a beautiful location to spend the day where they provide seating, shade and food. If you've come for the lagoon and been disappointed, don't worry there is much better things available. I have given the lagoon three stars because of its poor environment but the town and cenote make up for it.

A fantastically beautiful place to visit for the day. The sand texture is really fun and the water is lovely.
Very nice place to spend the day, quite and relaxing. Recommended
Absolutely Beautiful! Believe me when I tell you, my pictures does this place no justice. From the amazing crystal clear waters, to the green eco-system around it. It's nothing short of amazing. There currently doesn't seem to be any food/restaurants around, other than some small vendors , so it's perfect for a picnic.
Great time spent at the lagoon. Very local atmosphere
