Jacaranda Education was founded in 2006 by a group of young professionals from the Department of International and Transcultural Studies at Columbia University’s Teacher’s College. The organization was launched initially in the State of Oaxaca with the primary objective of creating a platform for direct services in education and educational development within the region, specializing in profesional development, curriculum development, and institutional capacity building. The organization set out a mandate, that remains to the day, to work towards the development and implementation of innovative, quality, low-cost education solutions that align to the needs of the working environment. A key area of focus of its work has been and remains technology in education, and in particular Maker Education, STEAM, and 21st Century Learning and is centrally involved in realignment of public technical education in Mexico to meet the growing challenges and opportunities emerging in 21st century Mexico. The organization has undertaken more than ten different projects for the Department of State of the United States of America and is the current recipient of the prestigious Prosperity Fund from the UK government in Mexico to support its work in technical education. The organization is active in nine states and has permanent teams working in Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Mexico City. Its current central office resides in Mexico City.
