Difficult to find but so worth the effort. Gorky and his sons have revived the Mexican maiolica pottery style which is beautifully painted and fired. The studio is filled and you can browse and touch and awe yourself at a leisurely pace. I visited 14 years ago and met the master, one of my highlights of visiting Mexico, and couldn’t leave without going again. The staff will ship anything you buy for a reasonable rate. Don’t leave the state of Guanajuato without a visit there, you’ll thank yourself.

I was looking specifically for Mayolica/Talavera so of course this was a must visit. It was frankly disappointing. We weren't warmly greeted; in fact we were barely greeted at all. Then we were followed around not so much to help us look but it seemed to make sure we didn't steal anything which was odd because we weren't an unruly band of youths but well dressed tourists. Paintwork is good if you like dots and the reliance on animal forms lessened the choice of classic pieces.

Excellent pottery, including a fascinating tour of the work shop.
