Beautiful fort. If you are coming through Bacalar, you really need to come visit this fort and the center of town. There is lots of little mom and pop shops selling things.

Loved it! Great place to go grab a bite and have the kids play afterwards.
Its a neat fort with cannons on the corners. Little museum inside. But its not really worth the 100p price to go in. Its very small. You can walk around it and get some pictures.
Simple yet complete museum about the history of the region. It is a colonial fort used to defend Bacalar from pirate attacks and the mayan as well. The structure is impressive even though it's rather compact. Visit and enjoy, I really recommend. An hour or less would do.
It was really cool to read and learn some historical facts as why they build it I recommend it ..
September 2020– the lights are not on at night. They weren’t on Sunday- Wednesday so I’m unsure if it’s a weekend thing. I was here at this time last year and the lights were on every night. The bacalar sign is near by and you can get a shot of the sign and the fort. I enjoyed the visit to this historical location. The park is usually full of excitement... not sure if it’s because of covid or the end of the high season but it was pretty dead.
Really interesting historical sure. Discussed the Mayan history of the region, how the Spaniards came in and settled, the rise and fall the pirates. Beautiful party of Mexico.
Small fort in really good shape. Visit if you're in the area. You'll only need an hours. I would not go out of your way.
