Great retreat and amazing staff and amenities. Close to hikes, town, and stunning views. Highly recommend it!

For spiritual and religious people, definitely l don't recommend it, this place is a mixture of shiva and chaman. Well, this is my experience: to be fair with the place, I will begin with 12 points..right after checking in normal. Second:installations tour poor, almost mediocre, the guy spoke way to fast, hard to understand, if management reads this retraining is needed ASAP my suggestion is with just a question what services are you getting on your stay here? Then ho! You need to register here, go there, and on and on.. - 2 .. second: no schedule or itinerary provided, if my package was purchased weeks before, I expect installations maps, as well of surroundings, -2 third no internet no TV. -2 fourth: noisy, pool too close to my room drinking people making noise right on the middle of the night (12:30Am). we have to remember it's supposed to be a relaxing environment.-2 fifth:run out of toilet water, just imagine that you have to use the restrooms and you need to flush, and pull the handle, just to find out no whater? Hard to believe.. -2.. sixth: no sauna, no jacuzzi, well there was one small but water was cold..-2 .. as you realize there is no more points, but for courtesy to my food server 1 star... this is my honest evaluation on this visit.. thank you!!
beautiful make sure to reserve ahead at the moment even to dine.
It's a beautiful place, perfect for recharging, meditating and find peace. BUT, if you're spending your whole weekend, better come prepared with money. The restaurant is OVER Expensive. With capital E. For a 300 ml clamato beer they charge 95 pesos. And they don't even give you the full can/bottle. A dish at dinner is around 250 pesos. They don't even offer water to the guests, a 500ml is 35 pesos.
Terrible experience. I live in Tepoz and organize spiritual retreats very often, people from Hostal de la Luz are always contacting me to bring my people there, thankfully I have never done it, even though I have recommended this hotel plenty times in the last 10 years, I will never do it again. Today I decided to have my day on a jacuzzi so I called the Hostal to book a room, I called around 10 times and no one answered, then I decided to write in fb, no one answered, then I decided to go straight there ALL THE WAY TO AMATLAN, just to ask availability, I entered the property, asked where reception is, and RESPECTFULLY stayed outside since my mask got salsa on and I couldn't wear it, there was 3 ladies, the first one started to attend me but turned to ask her colleague if they had rooms available, the other two were busy talking to each other, she reacted not nicely that we interrupt them and she said that she wasn't going to give me any information because I wasn't wearing the mask. Notice I tried to call, wrote a message and finally had to come all the way there and respectfully stayed outside for the lack of mask, all this was explained to the ladies and they still kick me out.
The scenery was breathtaking, being surrounded by the mountains was enchanting, The concept was beautiful, I loved how they open and close energetic circles to their therapeutic treatments. Visually, their was a lot of symbolism that were interesting. We attended a group activity that was awesome and helped us stay grounded during the rest of our journey in Mexico. We participated in a Temazcal incredibly lead by one of their shamans that brought us out of our comfort zone, an experience I will definitely do again. However where they lacked was giving the resort a story, explaining the concept, most importantly what their mission was. The resort lacked life. Getting into the hotel the feeling of being lost was the first impression. We had bought a package and the package wasn't explained upon arrival and the reservations weren't confirmed. Arriving to our appointments some didn't seem like they were expecting us. This gave the impression of not being valued. Not that they weren't nice, on the contrary, very considerate and very helpful. The resort felt more touristic then authentic in these regards. We did enjoy our stay but with these points reviewed you will definitely get a 5 star review from us
This place is absolutely beautiful and for that alone it's worth visiting. The food though, is overpriced and not very good. My advice is try to bring your own food or at least your own snacks :)
The best place to relax! Service is amazing, food is outstanding and massages are out of this world!
