Piña Palmera Piña Palmera, based in the village of Zipolite, is a non-governmental organization without political or religious affiliation. They have been working with people with disabilities, most of them indigenous from the rural communities in Oaxaca, for more than 30 years. Its original Swedish founder, who’s legacy continues to support this nonprofit organization today, realized a need to build a shelter for disabled and/or abandoned children of this region, in 1984. Today, this amazing organization has an international reputation. It has assisted thousands with the advocacy and the rehabilitation of all types of persons with disabilities, without concern for their ability to pay or their ethnicity. Piña Palmera is a reminder to even the most cynical of us, that there survives a reassuring reflection of humanity in some of the humblest of world communities. A humanity that is not often found in other, more prosperous parts of our world, today.

Dissability oriented and very affordable prices for the several therapy services they provide. Parking lot, NGO managed.

Serious grassroot NGO, fantastic impact on indigenous lives, everyday. Changing the local and national cultures, towards a more open, understanding and engaged society. I have collaborated in 2004, making the video "20 anios caminando juntos". Since then, and everyday, Pina has been in my heart. If you can; go to Pina and fall in love, and if you want, help, any donations, make a great difference.
