Small terminal with boats to Belize. Frontier checks including dog sniffing

Very easy boarder crossing. Was coming from Caye Caulker. Had some amazing fish tacos while I waiting for the bus!

Be careful not to re-pay your tourist tax. If you flew into Mexico on a Mexican or major airline, chances are taxes were included. It’s not always obvious and the immigration officer wants specific info or you pay. Best to have this ready before! For our airline interjet, you have to go to their website, click on ticket details and it’s under FARE RULES where the breakdown is.

Catch the water boat to Belize from here. The customs process was easy, but the boat was delayed for some reason. Didn't feel like there was a "set" schedule, but then again, you're on Mexico time.

Immigration forces you to pay an extra tourist tax even though you already paid it when entering Mexico by plane. That spells SCAM by the Mexican immigration. Be aware!

Fairly speedy process to clear customs&immigration and enter mexico. Upon arrival a 533 MXN fee has to be paid and only in cash. Instead of changing money at the exchange bureau they have on site (rates didn't seem to be the best) or trying to use the ATM which most of the times is not working, get a free ride with one of the taxi drivers and 1 minute you'll find santander/HSBC ATM's at the "palacio de justicia" Customer service staff were friendly and empathetic

Mexican immegration forces you to pay 533 mecican peso per person as a 'tourist tax', only payable in their own currency, not accepting any cards. No exchange offices, no ATM's, nothing. Most likely you already paid for it with plane tickets, but you better be able to prove it. If you can't and have no pesos on you to pay, they take your passports and you need to get money elsewhere. Very unfriendly way of entering a country, be prepared.
